Aaronn Avit Ajeng - Biography

Dr. Aaronn Avit Ajeng, Ph.D. is a driven young Biologist in the field of Biology and Biochemistry. He defended his Ph.D. thesis within 2.5 years at the Universiti Malaya. For his doctoral thesis, he bioengineered a carbon-based material, biochar with effective Bacillus consortium with response surface methodology (RSM) software and investigate the optimal conditions for microbial survival, as well tested its efficiency on the growth response of Elaeis guineensis and analyze the metabolite profiles through metabolomics. His invention has been filled for national patent/intellectual property protection.

For his achievements, he has received several international awards from Human Life Advancement Foundation (HLAF) in 2022 and Rising Star Scientist from University of Nottingham in 2022.

Outside of academia, he enjoys engaging with communities through creating meaningful contents on social platforms and public awareness programs. Aaronn has been actively involved in community programs throughout Peninsular Malaysia, emphasizing the importance of agricultural sustainability and its economic implications. His dedication and achievements caught the attention of the Global Young Scientist Summit (GYSS) in Singapore, where he was selected as a participant in 2022. Funded by the National Research Foundation and Prime Minister's Office of Singapore, this summit provided Aaronn with an opportunity to showcase his invention to young scientists and Nobel Laureates from diverse fields. His video entry received widespread acclaim and garnered hundreds of votes on the voting site.

In 2019, he was nominated for a Japan Science and Technology (JST) travel grant worth 180,000 yen by Prof. Dr. Ling Tau Chuan, whom supervised his undergraduate project, for a mobility programme in Osaka University, Japan, focusing on Bioprocess engineering. He also received extensive training in Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine at Tissue Engineering Centre (TEC) Pusat Perubatan Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (PPUKM) and National Orthopaedic Center of Excellence for Research & Learning (NOCERAL), Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya (UM) before registering as a Ph.D. student in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Faculty of Science, UM.

Within the first two years of his Ph.D. programme, Aaronn successfully published four articles as the first author and three articles as a co-author in ISI-indexed journals. Aaronn was able to present his findings at a number of local and international conferences, as well as to communities through knowledge transfer programme. He also completes an attachment as a Ph.D. student at the Institute of Systems Biology, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 2022, where he was intensively trained in the field of metabolomics under Prof. Dr. Syarul Nataqain Baharum, who was the pioneer of metabolomics field in Malaysia.
