Assoc. Professor Dr. Rosazlin Abdullah, BacChar™ project leader during ITEX 2024 |
BacChar™, an innovative breakthrough in the biotechnology sector, has earned its first Gold Award at the prestigious ITEX Malaysia 2024, held on 16-17 May 2024 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. This accolade highlights BacChar’s remarkable potential and the strides it is making in the world of invention, innovation, and technology.
BacChar™, short for "Bacteria and Biochar" is an innovative biotechnological solution designed by Dr. Aaronn Avit Ajeng from Universiti Malaya for his doctoral thesis which aimed at addressing environmental and agricultural challenges. BacChar™ leverages the power of effective Plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) and utilizes palm kernel shell biochar, a form of charcoal that can enhance soil fertility, sequester carbon, and mitigate climate change produced via pyrolysis of biomasses as the bacteria carrier. This cutting-edge technology not only improves crop yields but also promotes sustainable farming practices, making it a game-changer for the agricultural industry. The invention has been trademarked and filed for patent in 2023 and 2024.
